Lake Bonny residents create a petition for independent examinations for flooding according to Milton

A group of residents of Lake Bonny collects signatures for their petition, in which an independent examination is required about how the floods according to the hurricane Milton have taken place and how the local guides plan to take them again.

Morsey and her neighbors recently created a petition, in which an independent examination of the causes, management attempts and the lack of efforts of flood protection by the city of Lakeland, Polk County and the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMD).

“We don't want money or money,” said Morsey. “We only ask for security and security, so that this does not happen to another municipality, since the infrastructure with the way in which Polk County and Lakeland is available here cannot cope with the drain.”

“Every time there is a rainstorm, there is panic attacks because we know that the water level appears a little more, a little more and a little more,” said Morsey.

What's next:

So far, the homeowners have collected a few hundred signatures and plan to put the petition online in order to achieve as many people as possible.

The other side:

A city spokesman said a water sheath for Lake Bonny was underway. His goal is to identify possible flood sources and potential flood relief options. It started in the last week of January and is expected to be completed by April or May.
