Montana Tech Football is preparing for the new border

When the basketball season begins and the snow melts, the spring ball at Montana Tech started, and the Oediggers are optimistic in 2025.

“We have lost some great seniors, but very excited about the veterans that we come back. And then this will be a big spring for some young people who didn't play much football here. Great opportunity for us to rate them, ”said Kyle Samson, head coach of Montana Tech.

With well over a dozen seniors from a 9-win playoff team, the juniors of the past year have to offer important leadership.

“Just teach these young children the right way. Just make sure that you do everything right and make sure that you turn to good young men, ”said Redshirt Senior LineBacker Tel Arthur.

“It is a great opportunity for me to be a leader in this team. Be a leader of the men. But I'm definitely ready for the challenge, ”said Derek Pearse, Senior Tight End.

While there will be many new names on the field, the faces on the sidelines remain the same. The Orediggers kept their entire team of coaches, which is of crucial importance for a young team for a young team, in which numerous position battles have not yet been completed.

“As a head coach, I am very happy to have a few great co -trainers. We will just continue to build and get better, ”said Samson.

“It is only huge for our entire team to have sales. You don't have to learn new faces, new terminology or such things. To be able to reduce only last year, ”said Pearse.

And among the returning coaches is the defensive coordinator Montell Allen. The former defense coordinator at the University of Chicago monitored an important improvement at this end of the ball in 2024, as they only allowed 21 points per game and forced a total of 23 sales. Compare this with 2023 when the Oedigger recorded 26 points per competition.

“It's huge. Just knowing the program, knowing what he wants, knowing how he wants to play us is just great for what we want to achieve this year, ”said Arthur.

The Orediggers are ready to stand on teams in the new look Frontier, which was expanded to 14 teams. While Tech will be in the East Division, the Gaumtlet of a schedule in 2025 begins with familiar enemies, with cross-division competitions against the rival Montana Western and the Carroll College can open the season.

“That only gives us a little additional motivation. If we know that, we play two of the best teams from the start. So we are better ready to go, ”said Samson.
