Belton, Texas ISD students are progressing for the national history of the national history day

Bisd said that the students are from grades 4 to 12 and represent a total of 15 different projects.

Waco, Texas – 41 young historians from Belton ISD will compete this April in the Texas National History Day (NHD) at the state level.

Bisd said that the students are from classes 4 to 12 and represent a total of 15 different projects, which marks the second largest group that makes it into the state in the history of the district.

The National History Day is a competitive event in which students can research historical topics that interest them and at the same time build critical research and analytical skills, said the district. The state competition will take place on Saturday, April 5, in the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin.

The competitors put together a historical argument to react to one topic and use research from the primary sources to support their results. According to BISD, the students will compete in five categories: documentary, website, performance, exhibition or research paper.

The projects are then evaluated by expert judges, including historians and university professors, according to the district.

Only those who took first or second place at the heart of the Texas History Fair have submitted SPOTS to the state competition. The students will now fight for a place in the National History Day competition, which, according to District, will take place from June 8th to 12th at the University of Maryland and Washington, DC.

“The day of national history goes beyond the competition,” said Chris Lemley, coordinator for social studies by Belton ISD. “It pushes them to think critically, to carry out a detailed research and to present their results in a sensible way. In a world in which critical consumption and analysis of information are becoming increasingly difficult, these students differ.”

“National History Day enables the students to deal with history as a ongoing conversation,” said Mike Krecker, Lake Belton High School AP Us History Teacher and NHD sponsor. “The process of researching and analyzing sources gives you the trust of contributing. Many students initially have problems to form analytical research questions, but I have growing all year round. Learn to evaluate the credibility of primary and secondary sources, and above all to ask thoughtful questions.

Belton ISD said that in the past seven years at least one student from the district had come to nationals every year. In addition to the competition, students who make it to nationals, visit Washington DC, visit attractions in the National Mall, take part in social events with other students from all over the country and take part in workshops under the direction of “respected historians”.

The community invited BISD to support its students in competition, either through the competition itself or the financial support of the students. The district said that the average costs for a student for participating in the national competition are 750 US dollars, and financing must be secured by April 11th.

Those who want to support students in the competition can do so in this link or personally the receptionist of the Belton ISD Central Administration Office in the 400 North Wall Street in Belton. Further information on the support of the students can be found from Chris Lemley at chris.lemley@bisd.net.
