Just like that, Rick Pitino is back and dominates again in Big East. The Red Storm got its first big East title since 1985 when he got into the top 10. They ended the regular season, which won 16 of their last 17 games, and the only defeat in a two-point battle came in Villanova and they survived in Marquette with a wild game winner in extension on Saturday. Nobody seemed to be able to really compete with them in the conference slate.

Pitino has led St. Johns to a place where it has not been for decades. He is now in a first -class position not only to run the big east, but also to fight for a national title again during the comeback phase of his career.

The Huskies started the season and saw after a legitimate three-goal candidate after the domination of sport in the past two years. However, the dream of a third title in a row is in life preservation.

Uconn entered the Big East tournament with only a 22: 9 record and as No. 3 seeds. In February, the Huskies plunged out of the national ranking in February after suffering several bad losses, including twice against St. Johns, and Xavier, Villanova and Seton Hall. It is difficult to count Dan Hurley and the Huskies in view of their latest track record, but the back half of this season was not friendly to Uconn. Without a dominant run in the Madison Square Garden this week it will be difficult to believe that it can trace back in the NCAA tournament a third time.

Both Villanova and Xavier need help this week to do the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats only went 18-13 this season, although at the end of the year they achieved great victories against St. John's, Uconn and a 15-point blowout against Marquette. But they are still outside to enter the Big East tournament. Without a few solid victories in the Madison Square Garden, you could miss the tournament for the third season in a row under coach Kyle Neptune – which could cost him his job very well.

Xavier was in a similar boat, but lost to Marquette at the start. After a hard start to Big East Play, the musketers ended the year when he won seven directly to 21-10 and took fourth place in the conference. They also beat both Uconn and Marquette in the regular season, but they are really their only big victories.
