Hannibal Senior Karter Reed the latest catch for William Penn Football | sport

“It was great,” said Reed about the recruitment process. “I was very lucky to build many very good relationships with a number of coaches. I very much appreciate that all coaches turn me to me and try to give me a chance.

Reed is leaning into a main subject of child psychology in William Penn.

Last season, Reed Hannibal's leading recipient with 24 catches for 425 yards and six touchdowns.

“Karter has brought a good size in the recipient position and a good physicality,” said Jeff Gschwender, head coach from Hannibal. “He was really just an outstanding leader of these recipients how to play when the ball didn't come to them. He was great to block plans, and he really brought the attitude out in training. He came out, worked hard, had fun and held a good attitude every day.”

After seeing him playing for the pirates for two years, Gschwender believes that Reed has the tools that are necessary to compete at College level.

“I really think that the skills that (reed) have transferred well to the college level,” said Gschwender. “He has no bladder speed, but he has ball skills that I have not seen in many people. In some of these games in which he does not get the ball, it is as important in our blocking schemes as our offensive line.”

Reed learned a lot from the coaching team with Hannibal during his time.

“I learned to never be satisfied and never be satisfied with anything,” said Reed. “Try to further improve.”

Although Reed only played at Hannibal for two years, he described his time with pirates football as a great time.

“I enjoyed every season,” said Reed. “My favorite memory was against Holt when I had two really long reception touchdowns.”

Reed refers to the 5-quarter-finals of class 4 District 4 on November 1, where he caught five passes for 95 yards and a few points in Hannibal's 50:14 win against Holt.

During Reed's time with Hannibal, he developed a lot of chemistry with quarterback Waylon, which committed himself to Truman State University last month.

“I have the feeling that a recipient is only as good as his quarterback, the man who throws the ball to you,” said Reed. “In my opinion, Waylon and I were the best quarterback-wide recipient duo of the state.”

Reed joins a William Penn team who has had a 4: 6 season, with head coach Marc Benavidez enters his third season at the top.

“They told me that I was a prototypical long inhibitor, a slot type,” said Reed. “So I want to go in there and have an immediate influence.”

Reed has great hopes for promoting his football career.

“I always had a dream of going to the NFL since I was a child,” said Reed. “To be honest, I just want to show children that they don't have a big university. You can do it anywhere. If you have the talent, you will find them.”
