Vehicle maintenance tips in the case of trace outbreak

Anchorage, Alaska (Ktuu) – In the event of an outbreak of Mt. Spurr, there are several maintenance steps that a mechanic recommends.

Experts monitor the volcanic activity on the MT. Spurr, which currently indicates a possible future outbreak, if not safe. If an eruption occurs, Alaska Vulcano observatory scientists say that Spurr would spit out ash clouds, not magma.

The abrasive quality of the resulting asche requires in many areas such as protection and precautionary measures for the household and health precautions for both people and animal families.

If you travel on foot, plane or car, you make challenges during and after the ash, but John Stoehner with Alaska Spring Performance gave an overview of how vehicles should be looked after to prevent ash damage or uncertain situations.

Before driving

“The best thing you can do is not to drive the vehicle if you can stay at home until road conditions and air quality [are] Better, ”said Stoehner.

For those who are unable to avoid driving, however, he recommends rinsing the car and the cooler before starting. However, do not avoid ashes to avoid scratches on color or windows.

Air filter

Fine ashes in the air are also air filter in vehicles. The owners should change their air filters several times after an outbreak, said Stoehner. In the period after an outbreak, Ash stays on the street, which is a faster accumulation in the filters than normal.

To save money, Stoehner recommends putting a few tights over the air filter.

“It creates a pre -filter and [keeps] These smaller ash particles go into the engine. “

Windshield and wiper

Since ashes can cause damage to surfaces when rubbing or wiping, Stoeher said that it was crucial not to let any windshield wipers dry over ash.

“You want to make sure you have the spraying of washing fluids before turning on your wiper leaves, but unfortunately most vehicles will sweep the windshield wipers in front of the water today,” said Stoeher. “So try not to use you if you can, because what will happen that ash and your wiper leaves actually score and scratch the windshield.”

Stoehner said because the clear vision is a decisive part of the safe driving without going on a clear windshield or not always using the windshield wipers.

“Expect that your windshield will be potentially scratched and your wiper leaves will deteriorate quickly,” he said.

oil

Car owners should continue their maintenance plan as usual, said Stoeher, but if there is an outbreak, vehicles need an oil change after driving in the ash.
