A total lunar eclipse can be seen in the night sky on Thursday.

Griffith Observatory shared a live stream from the point of view of the solar eclipse from its location in Los Angeles.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon goes directly into the shadow of the earth. On Thursday, 100% of the full moon move in the dark shadows.

Here is the timeline to look at the solar eclipse, as can be seen from the Griffith Observatory:

  • 8:57 pm: Penumbrale solar eclipse begins when the moon moves through the outer part of the earth shadow
  • 10:09 p.m.: The rain eclipse begins when the moon appears darker and moves into the more central path of the earth's shading
  • 11:26 p.m.: The overall eclipse begins
  • 11:59 p.m.: Greatest solar eclipse. This is the moment when the shadow of the moon closes closer to the earth center
  • Friday 00:31: Total eclipse ends
  • 1:48 am: Umbrale solar eclipse ends
  • 3:00 a.m.: Penumbrale solar eclipse ends

According to NASA, this is the first total number of lunar eclipse since November 2022. Griffith Observatory says that the next one in Los Angeles is visible.
