Two police officers and a dispatcher from the Coraopolis Borough were made for their efforts to save lives when a fire broke out a residential building at the beginning of this year.

Officer Jon Short, Corporal Brad Graham and Dispatcher John Lorenc were recognized on Wednesday evening before the local council.

The fire started on January 20 in an apartment on the first floor of a building with 12 units along the 6th Avenue And the officers and the dispatcher are attributed to the rescue of 10 people that night.

The police say that the officials are sent to the apartment building and worked to go from door to door to get everyone out of the building.

During the 4th floor of the building, Officer Short helped to wear an older woman down the stairs with the support of Corporal Graham.

The police authority says that the “quick thinking and decisive measures of the Dispatcher Lorenc played a valuable role throughout the incident when passing on the information to first aiders, and enabled the officials to react quickly and to remove the residents from the building and from the path of damage.”

“Boss, with great pride and honor that I present Cpl. Graham, OFC. Short, and the Dispatcher John Lorenc before you to be recognized for your outstanding service to our community that night,” said police captain Robert Litterini, police captain of Coraopolis.

The department says that the actions of the officials and the disregard of their own personal security have contributed to saving the life of the 10 people in the building that night.
