BP stops gas lick in front of Senegal and Mauritania coasts

BP has confirmed that a natural gas leak on the Senegal and Mauritania coast was stopped after it continued for three weeks. The Leck discovered on February 19 on the GTA field was in one of four fountains. In the region in which Greenpeace Africa found, the world's largest deep water coral reef houses and drawn criticism of environmental groups.

On Wednesday, BP installed a tree cap and remained the release of gas. The company said that the release had visually stopped, but Greenpeace and Local Fischer expressed concerns about the potential environmental impact.

BP played down the environmental impact and found that the “low release rate” and that the properties of gas and condensate indicated minimal damage. However, the company promised to continue inspections and tests to ensure that no further leaks occur.

The GTA field, which began on December 31, will probably produce around 2.5 million tons of liquid gas annually.
