play

  • The Wellesley College is examined by the Ministry of Education for allegations of anti -Semitism.
  • The probe comes from an e -mail that is sent by a local consultant in which there should be “no room” for Zionism on campus.
  • According to College officials, they are working to improve the campus climate and to ensure compliance with title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

Wallesley – The Ministry of Education has sent a letter to 60 universities and universities that were examined for anti -Semitism allegations that warn them of potential enforcement measures. Among them: Wellesley College.

The private Women's Liberal Arts College, founded in 1870, was warned in the letter with potential effects when it was found that it did not meet its obligations according to title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act that prohibits every institution on the basis of the breed, color and national origin.

The Wellesley College belongs to 60 colleges, including some others in Massachusetts, which, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education, are examined for “anti -Semitic nuisance and discrimination”.

The examination of the Wellesley College results from a resident consultant from the dormitory who sends an e -mail in which, according to the Brandeis Center for Human Rights, there should be no room, no consideration and no support for Zionism within the community of Wellesley College. The e -mail was sent to Israel on October 7, 2023 almost two weeks after the Hamas attack.

After receiving complaints about the e -mail, the RA sent a second e -mail that expressed regret. The Brandeis Center reports that the RA was communicated that the e -mail was sent with a “weapon to the head”.

The Wellesley College reacts to the warning of the Ministry of Education

In a statement by the Wellesley Director of Media Relations Stacey Schmeidel, college condemns anti -Semitism and other forms of hate.

“We continue to progress to improve the climate on campus and to ensure compliance with title VI, including the promotion of reporting and the establishment of a mandatory title VI anti-discrimination training for students and for other community members,” the explanation says. “These efforts were recently recognized in the anti-Semitism report on campus 2025 of the anti-defamation League, which Wellesley gave a class B and recognized the main improvements of the college last year.”

The explanation continues: “Our work on these topics has not yet been completed and we look forward to updating the OCR about the way we treat these problems and to share the results of this important work.”

The letter takes place one week after the Ministry of Education, together with the Joint Task Force to combat anti -Semitism, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health and Human Services and the U.S. General Services Administration, the immediate cancellation of $ 400 million to federal grooming and contracts to Columbia University.

Other Colleges examined in Massachusetts are Boston University, Emerson College, Harvard University, Tufts University and the Umass Amherst. All received letters from the Doe.
