Ryan O'Hara promoted to assistant coach with Florida Gator

Gainesville, Florida-Fast For a year after the NCAA has reduced its limits for the number of co-trainers on the field that can have a program, the Florida Gators advertised one of its long-time analysts, confirmed head coach Billy Napier on Thursday.

Ryan O'Hara, who came into the program for the first time in 2022 as an analyst at the quarterbacks, is now one of the team's full-fledged co-coaches while still working with the quarterback.

“He took over more responsibility in every cycle,” said Napier on Thursday. “He proved to be able to cope with the workload. And last year the rule that was made was made and I thought he did great work.”

Before the 2024 season, the NCAA began to enable analysts both in practice and during the games. While he was still analyst at that time, O'Hara's role in the quarterback room was expanding where he was practically the main coach of the unit, even though he did not hold the title.

Now he will officially hold the title in 2025.

“He was completely cut off in the grass and he is a great teacher,” said Napier about O'Hara, who comes under Napier in his eighth season coaching. “It is very proud to be well prepared for the players when they appear in the building. He did a great job with these boys. I think these players played well.”

In his first season without analyst, O'Hara relieved the workload of Napier and helped develop the then Freshman DJ Lagway, who at the same time exceeded the expectations from a part-time backup to a full-time start.

“The quarterback, I think DJ has obviously exceeded my expectations of a rookie. Graham Mertz deserves a lot of recognition for it, and Ryan O'Hara, who is an absolutely phenomenal coach and teacher, has his contribution to how he goes beyond and beyond. (Mertz) has achieved a number of progress due to many hard work.”

Before his current stay in Florida, O'Hara spent four seasons in Louisiana, while he worked with defense and finally working with quarterback under Napier and helped the ragin 'Cajuns to win four titles of the Sun Belt West Division. Louisiana won a share in the conference title in 2020 and was a conference champion in 2021.

O'Hara was also an offensive coordinator and recipient trainer for Alabama A&M (2016-17), the quarterback coach of Mt. San Antonio College (2014) and the quarterback trainer for the Santa Monica College (2015).

Before his career as a trainer, O'Hara started at the Quarterback for Arizona in 2003 before completing his career at Central Oklahoma, where he won a Lone Star Conference North Championship and was a all -conference in 2006.
