Florida's US senators state that the law on NASA headquarters is transferred to the Space Coast

WASHINGTON -Ashley Moody and Rick Scott, the Republican US senators in Florida, have efficiently announced the consolidating aviation programs in the Canaveral Act (Cape Canaveral) to lay the NASA headquarters from Washington, DC, to Brevard County.

The law, which was introduced on Thursday of Sen. Moody's 119th Congress, consists of barely two pages that prove to be relocated to Brevard County at the latest one year after the legislation has been completed.

Senator Scott, the co-sponsor of the legislation, says there is no better place than the Space Coast for NASA, and partially claims that the implementation of the headquarters of space management according to Florida will save American tax money.

“(IT) will improve efficiency and rationalize the operation in this important industry with the proximity to private partners and a high-level workforce that is willing to help America reaching its space exploration goals,” said Scott in an explanation. “We have worked hard to make Florida a flowering air and space lift hub that it is today, and I look forward to the quick adoption of our legislation and the welcoming of NASA to the best state of the nation!”

Although Moody's statements also received taxpayers, both senators also raised low staff levels in NASA's DC headquarters in NASA.

“As an administrator of taxpayers' money, we have to ensure that every new building is filled with employees – not empty as in the past four years in Washington. Let us pass the Cape Canaveral Act and get the NASA with its headquarters in Florida, where it will thrive, ”said Moody in an explanation.

Rhetoric was introduced in a press release by pointing out soon to the DC headquarters of NASA and claimed that “the current building was” filled only 15 percent “, this number” a example for nonsensical government waste “.

This percentage was collected from an interim report by the public building reform committee in March 2024 to the congress, which sewing the utilization for selected federal buildings from January to September 2023.

With a metric of a seat per 200 square meters of usable space, the NASA DC headquarters with 545,731 useful base was listed with 15%. The highest of all of these results came from the US Agency for International Development with 26% for 1,832,375 usable square foot and the lowest of the Energy Ministry at 0% for 967,674 square foot.

News 6 has contacted NASA to find out whether the percentage has changed since 2023.

The step of Moody and Scott is the latest among the Florida politicians, who sees NASA's headquarters in Brevard County.

The governor of Florida, Ron Desantis, spoke in detail about the move, with some of his remarks based on the same claims that the DC headquarters of NASA are largely empty.

“I spoke to the director before we came here. There is an interest in relocating NASA's headquarters to KSC,” said Desantis in January. “You have this massive building in DC and nobody goes. Why don't you just exclude it and move them all here? “

Later this month, the Palm Bay City Council unanimously voted to offer City Land as new potential space for NASA's headquarters. The heads of state and government said that the move would strengthen the economy of the state, while the critics believe that NASA should have a place in the US capital due to federal financing.
