Yankees LHP Carlos Rodon starts on the opening day against Brewers

The left -hander Carlos Rodon was left behind by manager Aaron Boone on Friday as the starter of the New York Yankees.

The Yankees open the season at home against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 27th.

A serious violation of the right -handed Gerrit Cole opened the door for Rodon to land the role. Cole was carried out by a Tommy John on Tuesday.

“It's an honor,” said Rodon to reporters. “I'm excited. I just want to go out and win the game.”

Boone said the left -handed Max Fried will start the second game. The former outstanding standout of Atlanta Braves signed an eight-year-old Free Agent deal of $ 218 million in the off-season.

Rodon steps into the third season of a six-year-old deal of $ 162 million. The 32-year-old is 19-17 with an ERA of 4.74 in 46 starts with New York. As a two-time all-star, he won the best 16 games for his career last season.

“I have the feeling that his arsenal develops – the secondary stuff is getting stronger and the change is now becoming a real factor,” said Boone about Rodon.

This is Rodon's second opening day; In 2019 he also received the honor for the Chicago White Sox.

“To be honest, it's just the first game of the season,” said Rodon. “It is another baseball game. Take it like another game, it is happen to be the first game of the year.”

The right -handed Freddy Peralta starts for the brewers.
