Sayville welcomes Rob Hoss as a coach for the golden lightning

The Sayville High School announced the return of the former coach Rob Hoss on Friday to take over the management for the Golden Flashes Football program again.

“We are pleased to have Rob Hoss back to head the next chapter of our football program,” said Ryan Cox, director of athletics from the Sayville school district. “He was a very successful trainer the first time. And our program is looking forward to his transforming leadership style and continues the traditional values ​​that we have in our football program.”

Hoss takes over Reade Sands, who retired after last season to spend more time with his wife and four sons. Sands led Sayville to eight playoff appearances in his eight seasons (2017-24), including four Suffolk Division III titles, a Long Island Class III championship in 2022 and three Rutgers Trophies (2020, 2022, 2024). His career record of 74-11 comprises a 22-game winner that extends over seasons 2022-23.

The 51 -year -old Hoss led the golden lightning to five crowns of Long Island Class III in 15 years.

“Super excited to get back to work and help our children grow up and out of the field,” said Hoss to Newsday via SMS. “It is very honored to come back and to lead a program that means to me and the Sayville community so much.”

Hoss has recently worked as a Sayville offensive coordinator in the past five years. He retired in early 2016 to spend more time with his wife and three children.

When he was head coach for the first time from 2002-16, Hoss led the golden lightning to 10 appearances in the Suffolk III championship game and won eight titles. Be. His career record is 130-29, including undefeated seasons in 2004, 2011 and 2015. In his last season 2016, the golden flash of Jack Coan, the award-winning quarterback from Hansen, was led when Sayville went 10: 1 and lost to East Islip, 42-35, in Suffolk III final.

“Trainer Hoss prioritizes mentoring, leadership and the development of young athletes,” said Cox. “He is a real role model that has conveyed values ​​for teamwork, commitment and perseverance to his players, many of whom have done many successful careers, some are even back to train in Sayville.”

He is also a teacher of social sciences and social sciences in the district and will remain in his teaching and administrative offices.
