“We agreed that the highest point that gainers would be the one we would recommend,” said the chairman of the committee, the Chancellor of LSUA, Dr. Paul Coreil. “That was a protocol from day one. Different types could have been done, but so we agreed to do it. Therefore the recommendation was given. They were very close. It was less than 1% difference between Acadian and Pafford. “

On March 5, 2025, the committee published its results about why Pafford Ems recommend the police jury. Pafford scored the highest point with 1,765 points, followed by the Akadian ambulance with 1,751 points.

The members of the committee scored the entire cumulative points of each provider of providers who submitted offers for the service. These points are based on response times, quality, ambulances provided, certified EMS drivers and adequate employees to fill all rapides.

Ouachita Parish also has a single provider system and, according to Dr. Coreil very well with the ambulance service.

“In the opinions of some people, it is removed about any confusion who should call and who will be in line to answer,” he said. “Therefore, the responsibility lies exclusively for one person, an organization, and it is a little easier to evaluate if you have an organization, an ambulance provider who really offers parish service.”

Kalb received police jury documents by publicly recording Acadian Ambulance Response Times in Rapides Parish.

On average, the documents from January 2024 to February 2025 show an eight-minute response time for Alexandria and Pineville incidents, followed by Rapides at a response time of 12 minutes and a response time of 20 minutes.

“The most important problem is clearly the response time, and of course there is a lot of sensitivity because it saves life the faster you get there when someone needs an ambulance,” said Dr. Coreil. “So that seems to be the most important parameter that people are looking for, both the public and the committee members, I will be honest with them. And I think we really have to look at these reaction times for these two top voters, and everything else was insignificant in comparison. “

In December, the police jury passed new regulations, which among other things offered a much stricter and offer a control system.

“It won't just be a blow. It will actually be a fine and a loss of your license, ”said Dr. Coreil.

From now on it is unclear when the police jury will meet to discuss the recommendation of the committee.

The Akadian ambulance has had sole responsibility for almost 30 years.
