The Beaumont Water Utility Department announces how it prioritizes water leaks.

The residents of Beaumont are experienced water disorders when the City crews at the North 4th Street near Pecos in the old town repair a water break in North 4th Straße. Mike Harris, director of water and sewage companies, said: “We have leak in our system every day. We have 857 miles that go through the city of Beaumont.”

For each registered leak, the city sends an investigator to evaluate the cause and severity and to put it in a prioritized queue. Heavy leaks like the current water break get priority.

“Sometimes as soon as we get involved, and it can be a big problem where we have to cut a section of the line, and then it can take a little longer, but it usually takes two to three hours for normal repairs,” said Harris.

Homeowners with smaller leaks, such as in service lines, can be exposed to two to three weeks, depending on the number of calls and available service crews. Residents in areas where large leaks can occur during the repair of temporary water failures.

“We try to isolate the section from Main, where we will carry out the repair. In this way we try to make it a low interruption of the lowest possible amount of customer,” said Harris.

The department for water supply companies in Beaumont encourages residents to call 311 if they suffer a water failure, even if the crews are already on site.
