The 92-year-old parking chest woman advocates help, 3 months after Gasleck forces her to use hot plates

A 92-year-old woman turned to News 12 after a gas leak in her Bronx apartment three months ago. Mary Betrix from Parkchester said she has been unable to use her stove since December 16. “I couldn't have a nice Christmas dinner,” said Betrix. “It hurts me for my son.” Betrix said she couldn't cook Christmas roast for her son Robert, who was her only child. Robert was 62 years old when he died of an illness in January. The mother and the son lived together in their apartment, where the Christmas decoration still dangled from the stove door on Friday. Betrix said Livingston Management gave her a hotplate. “I can't fry with a burner or bake with a burner, and the burner doesn't even fry a hamburger,” said Betriz. She claimed that building management told her that it would cost too much money to repair her gas line. “They try to force me an electric stove and I rejected it,” said Betrix. She declined because she likes the characteristics on her gas stove, especially the broiler and the oven administered. Betix said the hot plate changed her shopping habits and lost it because she didn't eat properly. Betrix told News 12 that she was given help from a neighbor and you called 311 about a dozen times. “311 was a fiasco,” said Betrix. “You couldn't get any information from you or really help you.” News 12 has contacted Livingston Management to get a comment. They did not answer from Friday evening.
