The route for the 7th stage of the Paris-Niz Zu 2025, the Queen stage of the race, was changed and shortened due to storm conditions in the Alpes-Maritime region, confirmed the organizers on Friday. Originally set to 147.8 km, the stage will now cover 109.3 km, with two important climbs away from the course.

Both the Côte de Belvédère (3.3 km at 5.7%) and the Col de la Colmiane (7.5 km at 7.1%) were initially included in the travel route, but were abolished due to safety concerns, especially with regard to the descent of La Colmiane.

Instead, the peloton navigates through the valleys of the VAR and the Tinée before it connects to the original course for the last 32.5 km. The finish line in Auron remains unchanged, although the stage still culminated in a decisive 7.3 km long increase with an average gradient of 7.2%.

This is the second year in a row in which the penultimate phase of Paris-Nice was revised, since the negative weather also forced the adaptation to the planned end of last year in Auron.

Who are the favorites for Paris-Nice 2025 level 7?

One thing is certain that you penetrate level 7 – wonderful rain and biting cold will be essential factors. However, what remains unpredictable is how every driver deals with the hard conditions. Some will fight because the extreme weather demands the body, while others – regardless of their resistance – could only be staged during the day due to difficulties in tankers. The unpredictability of bad weather often gives cycling an additional intrigue layer and forces both teams and drivers to carefully prepare for every detail before they even consider tactics for the final rise.

Suppose all competitors occur at their usual level, Matteo Jorgenson is well positioned to keep the yellow jersey. The long, loop rise of the stage fits its strengths with its properties as a heavier climber – neither too steep nor excessively extended. Beyond its physical properties, Jorgenson has momentum on his side and begins the stage near his house Visma lease a bike delivered extraordinary support throughout the race. Depreciation will be a huge challenge.

Behind him, Florian Lipowitz And Mattias Skjelmosis Round off the podium and it is unlikely that unnecessary risks will take. Both are strong climbers and will be in the mix for the stage victory, but with general classification ambitions as the primary focus, it is expected that they are more likely to drive on a measured race than to play on aggressive movements.

Due to the hard weather conditions, the racing organizers took the stage, with the Col de la Colmiane and a previous slight rise from the route. As a result, the drivers will now pursue a direct Valley approach for the final ascent.

The stage culminates with the ascent to Auron, which is officially measured at 7.3 kilometers with an average gradient of 6.9%. While the ascent itself is difficult enough to create time gaps, it is not particularly long, so that all differences can be marginal. However, the actual test could take place in the 25-kilometer lead to the last ascent, where a gradual climb through the valley juices the legs of the peloton. If a team decides to force the pace in this route, some drivers may already be on the border before the street really increases and puts the stage for a wear on the summit.
