South Kesteven to distribute grants for VE Day and VJ Day events

Municipalities can apply for grants of up to 2,000 GBP to mark the end of the Second World War.

The South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) said that the money for the 80 -year anniversaries of victory in Europe (VE) day and the victory on the day of Japan (VJ) would spend.

The financing comes from the fund for the memorial event scheme and will help finance street parties and beacon lighting, said the authority.

The events must take place within a week after the VE day (before or after May 8) or the VJ day (before or after August 15) to qualify.

Funding supports a national program to remember the end of the Second World War.

Council member Phil Dilks, SKDC cabinet member for armed forces, said: “These are incredibly important anniversaries for all of us in order to remember their importance for our peace and our freedom.

“I am very pleased that we can support communities to stage their own events.”

The municipalities can apply for VJ Day events by April 14th and until July 21.
