Find and remedy leaks during the fixes of a leak week

South Lake Tahoe, California – leaky tap? Toilet running? Flood bill? In
The United States, more than 1 trillion gallons water, are wasted from the domestic water by small water leaks. Follow the nation from March 17th to 23rd to save water and money.

Fix a Leak Week is an annual event that promotes water protection by supporting supply customers in their houses when finding and repairing leaks.

“It is quite crazy that 10 percent of the houses have leaks on average that can waste 90 gallons or more every day,” said Shelly Thomsen, South Taoe Public Utility District. “Customers can save water and money by taking a few minutes to look for leaks.”

Check if you have a leak:

  1. Identify toilet leaks by placing a drop of food coloring in the toilet container. If a color appears in the bowl after 15 minutes, you have a leak. Visit the hardware store to get a new toilet rapper and let yourself be rated immediately after the test to avoid that the tank stains.
  2. Check taps and shower heads for cracks, leaks and drops. Licks usually occur in rubber läaschen, connecting points or a worn tap disc.
  3. Find hidden leaks by searching for signs of water damage on floors, blankets and the back of the cupboards.

South Taoe Public Utility District customers can register in their water use portal and check their hourly water consumption. If there is continuous use, this will probably indicate a leak on the property. Register at Stpud.watersmart.com for free leak warnings and will be informed about potential problems.
