Athlete of the week: Brady Willis has a hard start to his second season

Brady Willis is to be into his second year with the Troup Baseball team. The second student won the role of the starting catcher as a newcomer last year and increased his game to new heights because he really makes the position in the second year.

“I knew I wanted to get in and start immediately, but I knew it wouldn't be easy, and I was not guaranteed,” said Willis. “I worked hard to get stronger because when I came in as a newcomer I was small.”

Willis built a strong camaraderie with the pitcher troop stable. He and his colleagues Davis Moncus have built chemistry long before they are suitable for the tigers in blue and gold.

“I've played with a lot of boys since I was a little child,” he said. “I and Davis have been playing together since we were eight. We have now played together for so long that we know what the other person wants in the field. “

Depending on who is on the hill for the tigers, Willis has to make some adjustments. Although it is never anything big, Willis has to adapt his style to the pitcher.

“Some jugs that they have to communicate and talk to more, while others mainly want to be left alone, so that everything depends on their personality,” he said.

There were some big moments in the season for Troup and Willis was the focus. No moment was bigger than Willis' walk to additional innings at home against Callaway at the beginning of this season.

“It was actually the second time in the game that I had the chance to win it for us and I would not waste the second,” he said. “I just went up there and trusted my bat.”

The effects that Willis would have on the tigers was recognizable as a newcomer. Willis began the team last season, which it achieved until the quarter -finals of the 4a State Playoffs. With a foretaste of the playoffs, Willis is hungry for even more success.

“It was great to take care of the elite, but we felt that we could do more,” said Willis. “Our goal is to win the state. We have only lost a senior from last year's team, so we try to really build on last year's run.”

The team had high ambitions, but Willis' individual goals do not concentrate on success or awards because it focuses on the simple task of improving every day.

“I have not focused on doing one thing better, but only focused on improving all parts of my game,” said Willis. “I work one day after the other and one step after the other.”

Willis already feels like a main support in the troup's starting line -up, although he is only in the second year. Willis deserves his place as a starting catcher for Troup and is not planning to give up his place soon.
