Passage:
Saalumarada Thimmakka is an Indian environmentalist from Karnataka, who is known to plant and look after thousands of trees. It is called the “tree – woman”.

Thimmakka was born in a poor family in a small village in Gubbi Taluk, District Tumkur, Karnataka. Due to poverty and lack of facilities, Thimmakka could not go to school. She was married to Sri. Bikkala Chikkayya from Hulical Village. At the age of forty, she wanted to end her life because she couldn't imagine. She started planting trees with her husband Banyan. They started with 10 Banyan seedlings on both roadside on a distance of 4 km in the first year. They took care of the plants like their children. The number of trees increased every year. More than 800 other trees from Thimmakka and her husband were bred.

The recognition came to Thimmakka's path from 1995, a good five years after the death of her husband. Although Thimmakka did not receive a formal training, her work was honored by many institutions. It was recognized by the Indian government and was transferred with the Padma Shri Award in 2019Which is one of the highest civil awards in the country.
