On Saturday, the sound was the alarminitiative of the Red Cross, an opportunity to get into the city's southwest side and install smoke detectors for neighbors that are completely free.

“If you install a smoke detector, actually reduce the change of people who die in a fire by 50%. So we install alarms and offer fire protection training,” said O'Connell.

The firefighters in Chicago spent time with volunteers with the Red Cross and worked to bring the smoke detectors into their hands.

“It is a good feeling to be out here with the community and help people,” said CFD Lt. Jim Foster.

The Red Cross says that this campaign has saved thousands of life across the country and in Illinois.

Sean Nabors Sean Nabor, the volunteer of the Red Cross, has installed countless alarms as part of the alarm program for sound, in which he is personally proud.

“To be on site is the most important for me,” said Nabors. “It's amazing. I treat everyone like my own family.”
