Arkansas' Isabella Whittaker sets American record in 400 at NCAA indoors

After a strong but injury-planned start to her college career at the University of Pennsylvania, Isabella Whittaker moved to Arkansas to use her last year of justification and to improve her skills as part of one of the country's strongest athletics and field programs.

Whittakiker did not waste time with participants in the Razorbacks and gave her team a big buoyancy with a record performance on Saturday in the 400-meter race of women at the athletics championships of the NCAA Division I men and women.

The 23-year-old doctoral student won the two-heat final in a blazing 49.24 seconds and presented a facility, a meeting, a collegiate and the American record.

The world record for the short lane/400 m of 49.17 from women belongs to the Dutch superstar Femke Bol, who actually had the top top-ins overall (49.17 in 2024, 49.24 in 2024 and 49.26 in 2023).

The American and collegial record previously belonged to the former Arkansas outstanding Britton Wilson, who on the way to the title at the Indoor Break Athletics Championships of the NCAA Division I 49.48.

This year, Whittaker and the Razibacks will follow the third women's team at the NCAA Division indoor championships and hope that the success of Whittaker needs the comeback that they need very urgently on the second day of the competition at Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

At the time of the 400 of the women on Saturday, Arkansas was fifth in fifth place, while the seven -time women's champion Oregon put the pace on title No. 8.

Whittakers appearance at the event of this weekend is bitter sweet, because although they qualified for the NCAA indoor championships 2024 in the 400 -m and 4×400 season with Penn, she had to miss the event due to an injury.

While she was out of operation, her future team has celebrated the 50th national championship for the Arkansas Athletics Program since 2015.

Whittaker will be back in action in Eastern on Saturday at 3:20 p.m. to see if she can help the Razorbacks at the 4×400 victory and at the same time closes the gap with Oregon.

The two -day meeting started on Friday and will be completed on Saturday evening.

Follow all actions from day 2.
