The residents speak after the last shots near Longs

Horry County, SC (WMBF) – residents who live near Freemont Road, outside of Longs spoke on Saturday after shooting on Thursday afternoon with WMBF News.

“Oh, if I had known about Freemont Road, I would never have lived in this area,” said a resident.

This resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she had just returned home after hearing what had happened.

“Of course I was worried,” she said. “First of all, because that's the time, the primary school children rise here”.

A police report shows that a call was received at 2:18 p.m. In the report, the official said that he found someone in a car who did not breathe and seemed to have been shot in the stomach.

The victim has been identified as a 53-year-old Don Johnson since then, who later died in the hospital.

The report also states that a second person was shot in the arm.

Duke Junior lives in a neighborhood next to the Freemont Road and said he heard the reaction after the incident.

“We heard the ambulances, fire engines and sirens,” said Junior.

The police arrested the 20-year-old Da'shauan Kamarion Knox.

Knox was charged with murder, murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

An arrest warrant showed that Knox was in a verbal argument before he shot Johnson “around his body several times”.

The residents near the Freemont Road also informed the MBF News that they would get the violence from this street could disturb their normally calm community.

“My biggest concern is that the police chase people through the neighborhood on foot and when they are armed,” said Junior. You don't want your children or wife or pets to be outside when random shots are going on. ”

He said that violence had remained on the other side of the tree line, but they often hear shots in the early morning.

The Horry County police authority announced in the summer of 2024 that they would increase the patrols and use special units on the Corridor Highway Nine to combat increased crime.

Junior said that the effort is what the community asks.

“As long as we see progress and arrest, I think that most people could be satisfied with it,” he said.

WMBF News is still working to find out how or whether Knox Johnson and the not identified victim knew.

Until Saturday afternoon, Knox still takes place in the J. Reuben Long Hafts Center with a set no bond.
