The planning department of Montgomery County recently presented the knowledge of the Glenmont Corridors Opportunity Study to the Montgomery County Planning Board on March 6, 2025.

According to Montgomery planning, “the study identified infrastructure, services, amenities and short-term measures to support Thrive Montgomery 2050er Principles of the corridor focused on growth and complete communities in the Glenmont region, especially at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and the Randolph Road. The most important results of the study include:

  • The need to use the Glenmont Metrorail Station as a transit hub and at the same time to cope with challenges such as carm-oriented infrastructure, fragmented property in property and unused business premises.
  • The feedback from the community emphasized concerns about the safety of pedestrians, the improvement of public space and the fair housing opportunities.
  • The need to revive the Glenmont shopping center and the positioning as a lively anchor within the community.

The study also describes targeted strategies to lead future development, including:

  • Strengthening the identity of Glenmont: Improve the poster through public spaces, local retail and mixed development. Put on a central citizen green and integrate open spaces into the surrounding development.
  • Expansion of the housing options: Promote with mixed income, transit -oriented living space with a focus on affordability and accessibility.
  • Improvement of connectivity and security: Implement vision of zero measures, bike-friendly infrastructure and extended transit services.
  • Revitalization of economic activity: Support small companies, informal providers and flexible retail spaces to increase economic liveliness.

“We are confident that the study will show a way and an overview of a much greater vision for what Glenmont can really be,” said Lead planner Zubin Adrianvala. “It is already a wonderful community of people. I think it is time for space to reflect the people in Glenmont as a full community. “

The work on the study started in early 2024 and contained discussions with the community to determine the current conditions of the investigation area and the problems with which the community is confronted today. The planners held focus groups with parishioners, companies and other interest groups, carried out a bilingual questionnaire and sent postcards to the study area. The feedback preserved by the community shaped the strategies and priorities of the study directly from the implementation. “Read the Opportunity study by Glenmont Corridors.
