6 children were witness to the murder of Kansas City Man in their house

Kansas City – A Jackson County judge sentenced a man from Kansas City to 22 years in prison for the deadly shootout of another man who took place in 2023, said Jackson County, Melesa Johnson.

The 24 -year -old Derek Jones confessed last year up to the 2nd degree murder, armed criminal action, violation of a protection order and the well -being of a child. With a total limit of 22 years, the judge condemned the accused to the total number of years requested by the state, which was approved as part of the provisions of the plea agreement: 19 years because of murder 2. Degree, three years due to armed criminal action, one year due to violation of a protection order and seven years to endanger the well -being of a child.

According to court files, the Kansas City police responded to a shootout on the 8300 block of the Highland Avenue on March 12, 2023. They met a male victim directly in the front door of an apartment that was declared dead at the crime scene.

Jones identified witnesses as a shooter and said that he had pushed himself into the residence after a witness had opened up the door. The defendant then released his firearm several times with the victim before fled in front of the scene. Six children, including the victim's child and the children of Jones, experienced the entire incident.

The police found Jones and took him into custody within an hour after the shootout.

While the defendant had no convictions about crimes, he had a prehistory of domestic violence and violation of protective arrangements. The witnesses had protection command against the accused at the time of the fatal shootout.
