2007 opening of murder examinations in Italy was reopened for a new DNA analysis

New DNA evidence caused Italian prosecutors to reopen the murder of 26-year-old Italian wife Chiara Poggi from 2007. The proceedings focused on a new suspect, 37-year-old Andrea Sempio, a friend of Poggi's brother.

Poggi was murdered in her house in Garlasco on August 13, 2007 when she was alone and was found dead in a laugh.

A consultation ordered by the public prosecutor's office of Pavia confirmed that according to Ansa under Poggi's nails, traces of DNA were assigned in several places.

Sempio is examined for “murder in the conspiracy with unknown people or with Alberto Stasi himself” because he is accused of beating Poggi on the head and struck with a blunt object according to Leggo with repeated blows.

According to the IL Messaggero, Sempio has to undergo a saliva test and the Carabinieri scientific headquarters in Milan.

These developments followed the application of new DNA analysis techniques on biological samples from the crime scene, said Libero Quotidiano.

Between 2016 and 2017, Sempio was examined for DNA traces found under Poggi's nails, but the allegations against him were archived in March 2017 by Pavia, Fabio Lambertucci.

At that time, the public prosecutor stated that, according to Avvenire, “an awkward attempt to find an alternative culprit after Alberto Stasi” was to find an awkward attempt to find an alternative culprit.

The investigation began after a complaint by Alberto Stasi's mother, the then friend of Poggis, who called for the case to be reopened by Sempio due to some “suspicious” explanations and circumstances.

Alberto Stasi, now 37 years old, was convicted of murder of Poggis for murder of Poggis for murder of 16 years.

“My conscience is easy, those who say that I killed Chiara do not know what they are talking about,” said Stasi according to IL pace.

Since January 2023, Stasi has been given the permits to work as an accountant as part of the reintegration programs outside the prison, as the surveillance judges consider it as a model prisoner, according to IL Messaggero.

The new DNA analyzes were carried out by a geneticist on behalf of the Giarda law firm, which was based on an investigation company in Milan, and its positive result was confirmed, according to Ansa, by advice, which was appointed by the public prosecutor's pavia office.

Sempio has contested the DNA tests of the DNA tests and voluntarily undertaken the DNA test, so that according to Ansa, it is being carried out.

At the time of Poggi's death, Sempio was 19 years old, according to Libero Quotidiano.

He is a friend of Poggi's brother Marco and was a frequent visitor to the family home, as found by Ansa.

When Stasi's defense in 2016 tried to reopen the case, the consultant Pasquale Linarello argued that the DNA found, according to Ansa, excludes the presence of Stasis organic material.

However, the public prosecutor and the magistrate have dismantled the hypothesis that Sempio was in love with Poggi, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano.

The judge emphasized the inadequacy of the methods with which the DNA was used by Sempio, according to Il Giornale.

The DNA samples, which were taken from two fingers by Poggi's nails, were compatible with Sempio -DNA, according to Rai News.

According to the IL Messaggero, the case is reopened by the public prosecutor's office Valentina de Stefano and deputy prosecutor Stefano Civardi.

“My husband and I learned the news today who saw the TG1. We have nothing and we don't want to say anything,” said Rita Poggi, Chiara's mother, according to Ansa.

When asked whether the event reopens the family, she replied, according to Ansa: “Set yourself”.

“He is amazed and shocked by the new developments,” said Massimo Lovati, lawyer of Sempio, according to IL Tempo.

Lovati added: “We are confident that the truth will come out,” said Il Giornale.
