Collision with several vehicles in Westkansas is still being examined

Sherman County, Kansas – at least eight people died after 71 vehicles were involved in a crash due to a dust tower in Westkansas, according to a release of the Kansas Highway Patrol.

At 3:22 p.m. local time on Friday, March 14th, a strong weather front moved with strong wind in Northwestern Kansas from Colorado, which led to a severe dust tower, which led to a slowdown of traffic due to the visibility, which led to several accidents against the I-70.

The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Sheriff office of the Sherman County, the Sheriff office of Thomas County, the Goodland Police Department and the Regional Fire and Ems reacted to the scene. Numerous injured travelers were transferred to medical facilities throughout the region.

Laura Kelly, governor of Kansas, thanked first aiders and emergency staff who reacted to examine and extinguish the crash.

The Critical Highway accident team of the Kansas Highway Patrol (diagram) and commercial vehicle/engine carrier inspectors reacted to the scene, and the crash continues to be examined. Both the I-70 in the east and west between Goodland and Colby were closed over a longer period of time.

All lanes were reopened on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
