Pittsylvania County Helicopter Crash examination begins

Pittsylvania County, va. (WDBJ) – A call was made on Saturday at 3:03 a.m., which reported that a helicopter crash in Block 2000 had occurred to the Campview Road in Pittsylvania, which claimed his pilot Paul Jackson's life.

“While I am examining here, I send my condolences to the family and friends of that person. We are out here and collect evidence, ”said Brian Russ, board member of the National Transportation Safety.

On Sunday, the investigators of the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board began their investigations, in which they had completed an initial examination in which evidence was collected.

“My investigation will continue to look at the man, the machine and the surrounding area. We will look at the pilot and his records. We will look at the helicopter expectations and the types of business, ”said Russ.

The man who called the crash, Tyler Jones, said that he had not even seen the helicopter on a food market from the crash site, where he fell off some passengers before he took off again.

“And then he came back and you could hardly see it in the fog. And then he came here towards Campview and everything I heard was a big boom. And I didn't hear the helicopter anymore, ”said Jones.

Jones said the pilot looked like he was working on the helicopter before climbing into the fog. This gave the investigators to answer further questions.

“We won't speculate. We are only here and collect evidence, so we do it. We have gathered a lot today and will continue the morning, ”said Russ. “We will carry out our thorough examination as we do in every accident.”

Russ said a preliminary report was expected in 15 days.
