A clergyman who claimed that cricket player Mohammed Shami had committed a sin by not fasting while Ramzan described the Holi celebrations of the daughter of the Pacer as “illegal” and “against Shariat”.

In a video that was released late Saturday, All India Muslim Jamaat President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi said: “She is a little girl … If she plays Holi without understanding (it), then it's not a crime.”

“If she is reasonable and still plays Holi, it will be taken into account against Shariat,” he added.

Razvi said he advised Shami to follow the principles of Islam earlier. Nevertheless, a video was published by his daughter, which Holi celebrated.

“I spoke to Shami and his family members … Whatever is in Shariat, don't let your children do it. Holi is a very large festival for Hindus, but Muslims should avoid celebrating Holi. If someone celebrates Holi after the knowledge of Shariat, it is a crime, ”he said.

He also congratulated the Indian Cricket team on his recent victory in the ICC Champions Trophy.

“I congratulate the captain of Team India, all players and Mohammad Shami with all my success,” he said.

At the beginning of this month, Razvi said that Shami committed a sin by not fasting Ramzan during the Islamic holy month.

In the video message on Saturday, he suggested that, including Shami, who could not keep it quickly, they should do it in Ramzan.

Razvi also instructed Shami to ask his family members, not to destroy the Shariat.

On March 6th, after Shami drank from a bottle during an ICC Champions Trophy game against Australia, the clergy had said: “In the eyes of Shariat, he is a criminal. He shouldn't have done that at all. “

He also advised Shami to follow the rules of the Shariat.

“It is the responsibility of all Muslims to follow the rules of the Shariat. Fasting is mandatory in Islam. If a person does not deliberately keep fasting, it is considered a sinner under Islamic law, “said Razvi.

“Playing cricket is not bad, but Mohammed Shami should fulfill his religious responsibility. I advise Shami to follow the rules of Sharia and be responsible for his religion, ”he had added.
