NASA to get live reporting on the crew 9 return, Splashdown

Note from the publisher: This advice was updated on March 17, 2025 to add new NASA+ links for the return events. In addition, updates of the return-to-EARTH media conference were carried out, including a change from the participants and the RSVP period for media to personally attend the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston.

NASA will offer live reporting on the SpaceX crew-9 of the agency from the international space station, starting with the preparations for dragon room vehicles, at 10:45 p.m. Edt on March 17th.

The NASA and SpaceX met on Sunday to evaluate the weather and the Splashdown conditions off Florida's coast for the return of the agency's crew from the international space station. Mission manager aims at an earlier opportunity for crew 9 return, which are based on favorable conditions that were predicted for the evening of Tuesday, March 18. The updated return destination enables members of the Space Station Crew to continue to fulfill handover tasks and at the same time an operational flexibility before less favorable weather conditions for a later week are expected.

The NASA astronauts Nick Hague, Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore as well as Roscosmos Cosmonauut Aleksandr Gorbunov complete a long-term science expedition on board the surrounding laboratory and will return time-sensitive research to earth.

The mission managers will continue to monitor the weather conditions in the region, since the dragon's dropout depends on various factors, including the willingness of space vehicles, the willingness of the restoration team, the weather, the sea states and other factors. NASA and SpaceX confirm the specific splashdown location closer to the crew 9 return.
