11 people flee, dog dies in the house of the East Texas House Fire

“Please make sure you have smoke detectors working in your house,” said PSFR.

Payne Springs, Texas – Eleven people were able to escape a house fire in the early morning Payne Springs Area.

On Monday, around 3:50 a.m., Payne Springs Fire and Rescue was called to a structural tax on FM 316.

When the crews arrived on site, they found a heavy fire in the back of the structure that stretched into the house.

“Interior teams saw heavy fire and a confusing interior compared to several additions to the structure and the garage that had been converted into a living space,” said PSDR.

Five adults and six children were able to escape with some smoke inhalation and one even with minor burns. They all refused to be taken to the hospital. A dog died in the flame.

“Please make sure you have smoke detectors working in your house,” said PSFR. “The last five structural fires we responded to have not installed any functioning smoke detectors.”
