Deion Sanders from Colorado wants spring football games against opponents

Colorado coach Deion Sanders wants the NCAA to consider the loans from the NFL model and enable the practice and scrimmage against another team in spring.

“I want to play the spring game against another team in spring. I am trying to do that,” said Sanders on Monday, after I announced that the Spring game of the Buffaloes will be broadcast on April 19 on April 19 (ESPN2, 4:30 p.m. ET).

“I want to style it like the professionals. I would like to compete against someone for a few days, and then you have the spring game. I think the public would be extremely satisfied. I think it's an enormous idea. I said to these employees who should understand that it is an enormous idea.”

During the summer, the NFL teams often carry out joint exercises with another team for a week, which leads to an exhibition game between the two sides. In college, teams practice against themselves when they lead to an intrasquad scroll. For larger programs, these exhibition games would be played in front of large crowds.

However, a trend has recently occurred in which these spring games are adapted to something completely different. B. a skills competition format – or canceled overall.

Nebraska, Texas, State of Ohio, Oklahoma and USC are among the programs in spring that end traditions.

“The way the trend is going is that you never know whether this will be the last spring game,” said 57-year-old Sanders, who enters his third season in Colorado. “Now I don't believe in it, and I don't really want to tolerate it. … to be competitive and play against your own boys, it can somehow become monotonous, and you really can't tell your boys' level.”

The Cornhuskers recently announced that on April 26th they would replace its spring football game with qualification competitions and 7-against-7 games in the Memorial Stadium. This comes after the trainer Matt Rhule, who expressed concerns about other teams, expressed the players in the scrimmage scout player and possibly wilder them through the transfer portal.

Sanders said that the danger of other programs that players may lure over the transfer portal after demonstrating their talents during the spring games is not a factor at least for him. The Spring portal window runs from April 16 to 25.

“Everyone moves to stop spring games, I don't know why,” said Sanders. “You will not prevent anyone from leaving your program by not having a spring game. If you want to save money, just say that. The child is already gone. You have already called out and contact someone else. You are already gone.”

Sanders also spoke about his contract extension on Monday and said that there may be discussions.

“I don't know,” he said. “Let all of us get [on his coaching staff] First straight, then I'm good. “

Before the 2023 season, Sanders signed a five-year contract of $ 29.5 million. The Buffaloes went 4-8 this year and last season 9: 4.
