FLAG FOOTBALL: 2025 Week 5 Florida Top 25 and Classification Rankings

2025 GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL RANKINGS

WEEK 5

Welcome to the fifth edition of the 2025 Girls Flag Football Rankings from FloridaHSFootball.com. With four weeks of the season over, the Florida Top 25 and the Classification Rankings are making some changes this week.

Now that we are four weeks into the season and heading into our fifth week, some things we thought we knew are emerging. Teams find their strengths at the midway mark as they push through to strengthen their positioning for district tournaments and regional playoffs with three and a half weeks left of the regular season.

At this point, the final ranking will matter most; honestly, we learn and grow with our rankings each week. Let’s just say the growth of the game in Florida is impressive, and many programs are striving for recognition.

However, we need to mention that we are changing our rankings methodology this week to be transparent. Our rule has been you have to be ranked in the Top 10 of your classification to be ranked in The Florida Top 25. As we have seen and watched with our own eyes, it is becoming evident that Class 4A has become the classification loaded with tons of teams that are Top 25 worthy. As such, we are abolishing our rule, and a team that is ranked in the Next Five Out – Previously On The Bubble – is also eligible to be ranked in the Florida Top 25 going forward.

Also, on one final note, more recent wins and losses will weigh heavier than wins or losses from the start of the season at this point. We understand some will point out that they beat this team or that earlier in the season to make a point. We want to remind everyone once more that it is not how a team starts—it is how they finish, and the progress during the season is marking how a team could end up finishing.

We will update these rankings weekly and provide a Top 10 for each of the four classifications. We will also provide our Florida Top 25, which is the Top 25 teams in girls’ flag football, regardless of classification. To be considered for the Florida Top 25, teams must be ranked in the Top 10 of their classification or be in the Next Five Out in their classification.

Rankings count games played through Sat. March 15, 2025

FLORIDA TOP 25

Ranking, Team, Classification, Current Record, Previous

Quality wins and quality loses are listed in order of most recent quality win or quality loss

1. Robinson (Tampa) (2A), 8-1, 3

Quality Wins: Lennard (Ruskin) (4A); Steinbrenner (Lutz) (4A) (x2); Belleview (3A); Bloomingdale (Valrico) (4A); Quality Losses: Alonso (Tampa) (4A)

With the Knights off this past week and will be off this week, nothing changes here for the No. 1 overall team in Sunshine State.

2. Alonso (Tampa) (4A), 8-1, 3

Quality Wins: Steinbrenner (Lutz) (4A) (x2), St. Petersburg (2A), Robinson (Tampa) (1A); Quality Losses: Lennard (Ruskin) (4A)

One game this past week was an easy one against Gaither (Tampa) (3A) with a shutout pitched. The Ravens are off this week for spring break.

3. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) (3A), 6-0, 4

Quality Wins: Pembroke Pines Charter (3A); Quality Losses: None

Well, we thought the Raiders hit the ceiling of where they could be ranked, but a few things changed this past week, with some Florida Top 25 teams causing havoc in the rankings. St. Thoams Aquinas did pick up their sixth win of the season, a 40-0 win over West Broward (Pembroke Pines) (4A)

4. Choctawhatchee (Fort Walton Beach) (2A), 9-0, 6

Quality Wins: Pace (3A), Belleview (3A), Chiles (Tallahassee) (3A), East Bay (Gibsonton) (3A), Navarre (3A); Quality Losses: None

Up two spots this week, the Indians rise in the rankings after picking up three wins over Destin (IND), Niceville (3A), and against previous No. 9 Pace, with the latter of the wins getting Choctawhatchee their fifth quality win of the 2025 season as they head into spring break.

5. Miami Edison (1A), 8-0, 7

Quality Wins: Miami Palmetto (2A); Quality Losses: None

It is starting to become clearer that the Red Raiders are on a beeline to their first possible state championship as they pitched two more shutouts this past week against McArthur (Hollywood) (3A) and Miami Carol City (1A). They are up two spots in the rankings from last week.

6. Wellington (4A), 8-0, 11

Quality Wins: Somerset Canyons (Boynton Beach) (1A), Western (Davie) (4A), Homestead (3A); Quality Losses: None

The Wolverines continue to make their climb in the rankings and picked up their third quality win of the season with a victory over previous No. 17 Somerset Canyons. Wellington will be one of the few Top 25 programs still in action this week, with a lot of teams on spring break.

7. Western (Davie) (4A), 7-3, NR

Quality Wins: Bloomingdale (Valrico) (4A), Lennard (Ruskin) (4A); Quality Losses: Wellington (4A); Miami Palmetto (4A); Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes) (3A)

Our biggest rise this week as the Wildcats is back in the Florida Top 25 after picking up a huge victory over the weekend against previous No. 2 Lennard (4A). This win certainly now supersedes the early season loss to Boyd Anderson while still factoring in the recent loss to Wellington. The loss to Miami Palmetto has become a wash thanks to Miami Palmetto’s recent loss to Homestead. The win against Lennard and a victory against Bloomingdale give Western their first two quality wins of the season.

8. Lennard (Ruskin) (4A), 10-2, 2

Quality Wins: Spanish River (Boca Raton) (4A), Alonso (Tampa) (4A), Newsome (Lithia) (4A); Quality Losses: Western (Davie) (4A), Robinson (Tampa) (2A)

You can’t say it was an entirely bad week for the Longhorns because it wasn’t. Yes, the loss to Western stings, but picking up a win over Spanish River, one of the oldest teams in the state, goes down as a quality win for them. If anything, Lennard will be fine as they head into the off week for spring break.

9. Palm Beach Gardens (4A), 7-1, 13

Quality Wins: Miami Southridge (3A), Fort Pierce Central (4A); Quality Losses: Spanish River (Boca Raton) (4A)

The Gators picked up a win over Park Vista (Lake Worth) (4A) and made the jump into the Top 10 of the rankings this week after some reshuffling among other teams.

10. Clay (Green Cove Springs) (2A), 6-0, 10

Quality Wins: None; Quality Losses: None

Picking up wins against Gainesville (2A) and Ridgeview (Orange Park) (2A), keep the Blue Devils holding steady in the rankings. Did you know Clay has only given up six points so far? So far, the only team to have scored on them is in-county rival Middleburg (3A).

11. Fort Pierce Central (4A), 8-1, 18

Quality Wins: Seminole Ridge (Westlake) (3A); Quality Losses: Palm Beach Gardens (4A)

The Cobras picked up their first quality win of the season, and it comes against one of the top powerhouse programs of all time in Seminole Ridge, moving the Cobras back up the rankings and closer to the Top 10 as spring break settles in this week.

12. Seminole Ridge (Westlake) (3A), 7-1, 5

Quality Wins: Bloomingdale (Valrico) (4A); Homestead (3A); Quality Losses: Fort Pierce Central (4A)

Sliding outside the Top 10 this week, Seminole Ridge doesn’t fall too far despite losing their first game of the season to Fort Pierce Central. However, the Hawks did get wins over Nova (Davie) (3A) and Bloomingdale (4A) – the latter giving Seminole Ridge their second quality win of the season.

13. Homestead (3A), 4-2, NR

Quality Wins: Miami Palmetto (4A), True North (Miami) (1A); Quality Losses: Seminole Ridge (Westlake) (3A); Wellington (4A)

The Broncos are back in the Florida Top 25 after being out of it last week. The win over Miami Palmetto put them back into the rankings and gave them their second quality win of the season as well.

14. Miami Palmetto (4A), 5-2, 8

Quality Wins: Western (Davie) (4A); Quality Losses: Miami Edison (1A); Homestead (3A)

Oh boy – the defending State Champions took their second loss of the season and officially knocked the Panthers outside of the Top 10 for the first time this season. The Panthers have two games lined up this week before spring break comes knocking.

15. Spanish River (Boca Raton) (4A), 9-1, 15

Quality Wins: Jensen Beach (2A), Osceola (Seminole) (2A), Sumner (Riverview) (4A), Palm Beach Gardens (3A); Quality Losses: Lennard (Ruskin) (4A)

The Sharks suffered their first set back of the season with a loss to Lennard over the weekend to drop them several spots. Spanish River did pick up wins over Palm Beach Central (Wellington) (4A), Atlantic (Delray Beach) (3A), and Nova (Davie) (3A) to go 3-1 overall on the week.

16. Steinbrenner (Lutz) (4A), 6-4, 14

Quality Wins: Newsome (Lithia) (4A), Strawberry Crest (Dover) (4A), Osceola (Seminole) (2A); Quality Losses: Alonso (Tampa) (4A) (x2), Robinson (Tampa) (x2)

Steinbrenner drops two spots despite not playing any games due to all the shuffling taking place in the Florida Top 25. The Warriors will have this week off before returning to action for their final five regular season games after spring break this week.

17. Stoneman Douglas (Parkland) (4A), 7-0, 19

Quality Wins: Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes) (3A); Quality Losses: None

Flying high with wins over Fort Lauderdale (3A) and Cooper City (3A) this past week, Stoneman Douglas are up a couple of spots in the Florida Top 25 as they continue to remain undefeated.

18. Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes) (3A), 7-1, 20

Quality Wins: True North (Miami) (1A), Western (Davie) (4A); Quality Losses: Stoneman Douglas (Parkland) (4A)

The Cobras continue to impress, but that quality win over Western now has less importance given recent games this past week. This past week, Boyd Anderson picked up wins over Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach) (3A), Pompano Beach (2A), and Hallandale (1A), outscoring opponents 98-0 and has a big game this week against No. 9 Palm Beach Gardens.

19. Newsome (Lithia) (4A), 7-3, NR

Quality Wins: St. Petersburg (2A), Harmony (4A); Quality Losses: Steinbrenner (Lutz) (4A), Lennard (Ruskin) (4A), Bloomingdale (Valrico) (4A)

Forgive me for not having Newsome in the rankings sooner, but after what has transpired this past week, it is time for us to get the Wolves into the Top 25. Yes, they are the No. 11 team in Class 4A, being in the Next Five Out, but as we said, it is becoming evident that Class 4A is a very loaded classification. Newsome is one good example of this. This past week, they picked up a win over Gaither (Tampa) (3A) to move to 7-3 on the season.

20. Land O’ Lakes (3A), 8-0, 21

Quality Wins: Sumner (Riverview) (4A), New Smyrna Beach (2A); Quality Losses: None

The Gators picked up two more wins on the season against River Ridge (New Port Richey) (2A) and Wiregrass Ranch (Wesley Chapel) (3A) to remain undefeated as they move up a spot in the Florida Top 25 rankings.

21. Pace (3A), 7-1, 9

Quality Wins: Navarre (3A); Quality Losses: Choctawhatchee (Fort Walton Beach) (2A)

While the Patriots did pick up two wins this past week, it was the chance for Pace to prove they were a Top 10 team and came up short against Choctawhatchee in midweek action. Pace will get a second chance against Choctawhatchee at the end of the regular season, but there is not much room for the Patriots to go up in what is becoming more of a weaker schedule than initially thought.

22. Ed White (Jacksonville) (2A), 5-1, 15

Quality Wins: None; Quality Losses: None

With the shifts happening, the Commanders ended up taking a slide in the Florida Top 25 despite winning games against Baldwin (1A) and Raines (2A) this past week before heading into spring break.

23. Bradford (Starke) (1A), 6-0, 24

Quality Wins: Suwannee (Live Oak) (1A); Quality Losses: None

Just one game was played this past week against Eagle’s View (Jacksonville) (IND) for the Tornadoes after their second meeting with Columbia (Lake City) (2A) was canceled. Bradford heads into spring break undefeated and will have some tough opponents ahead after the break.

24. Somerset Canyons (Boynton Beach) (1A), 7-1, 17

Quality Wins: None; Quality Losses: Wellington (4A)

The Cougars had their first slip-up of the season, falling to Wellington, but did pick up a win over Boca Raton (4A) to keep their ranking for now in the Florida Top 25. A big game with No. 15 Spanish River awaits this week.

25. Horizon (Winter Garden) (4A), 9-0, NR

Quality Wins: Apopka (4A), Timber Creek (Orlando) (4A); Quality Loses: None

We can’t ignore the Hawks any longer here, who have emerged as one of the top programs in Central Florida despite only being a few years old overall as a school. A big win over Apopka this week, coupled with Apopka’s win over Belleview, sent Horizon into the Florida Top 25 for the first time this season. Horizon also claimed a win over Winter Park (4A) last week as the Hawks enter spring break this week.

DROPPED OUT: No. 16 Fletcher (Neptune Beach) (3A); No. 22 New Smyrna Beach (2A); No. 23 Bloomingdale (Valrico) (4A); No. 25 Belleview (3A)
