The constitutional check will be a positive result for the change in Ghana's assets – Prof. Prempeh

Chairman of the constitutional review committee, Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh

The chairman of the constitutional review committee, Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, is optimistic that the ongoing constitutional review process would lead to meaningful reforms.

He spoke about Joy FM's Super -Morgen -Show and said that he had no reason to doubt that this review would lead to significant changes in Ghana's governance framework.

“We are a committee and our report is presented to the president who has initiated our appointments. Two weeks ago we had the opportunity to meet him as our first stakeholder. At the meeting, we have presented our work update since our inauguration and, according to his views, were looking for various constitutional matters based on his experience as President and former Vice President, ”he said.

Prof. Prempeh clearly explained that the president, although he is in a team because he plays a crucial role, but does not have the only word.

“The president is just one of the goalkeepers. As soon as we clarify its level, the proposals would have to go through the parliament because the constitutional reform is essentially the law. It must be presented as a legislative template and passed by parliament, ”he noted.

He outlined the process and declared that if the reforms did not include anchored provisions, the parliament will have the authority to say goodbye.

For firmly rooted clauses, however, the decision requires a broader national participation.

Prof. Prempeh added that the review of the president's commitment was a governance reset, which was a major promise of election.

“The president has the mandate and responsibility to make this promise. I am firmly convinced that this process will lead to positive results, ”he said.

Although he could not predict the exact number of suggestions that are approved, he encouraged the Ghanaians to deal with the process.

“If Ghanaians really want changes, they will achieve it. It is up to us to stay involved and push the reforms that we want to see, ”he said.
