The Bronx judge Jeffrey Zimmerman resigns after examining the misconduct commission for “rude behavior”

A pronounced Bronx judge has agreed to withdraw -and never return to the bench -after he was described that he criticized the judgment of a jury and concerned a “pattern of behavior discussed”, including the explosive of a co -judge, has learned The Daily News.

The incumbent judge of the Supreme Court, Jeffrey Zimmerman, in a letter to the highest administrative judge Joseph Zayas on February 19, said he had effectively resigned on April 3. In return, the New York State Commission for Justice behavior dropped the investigation.

Zimmerman agreed to step down and saw that he would not try to return to the bench. The Commission stated that such provisions have been given since the beginning of the trial in 2003.

The last time a city judge agreed, was in 2023 when a judge of the family court resigned in an investigation into long absences, and a judge of the replacement court resigned for misconduct.

Zimmerman could not be reached for a comment. But his lawyer Deborah Skalisene noticed that there was “no knowledge of misconduct”.

She also referred to his 41 -year -free and state public prosecutor's office, criminal law policy, the lawyer of the private sector and his “enzernarier” – seven years as a judge.

According to the Commission for Justice Behavior, Zimman was accused of misconduct in January.

Zimmerman at a trial “interfered in the relationship between the lawyer and his lawyer, repeatedly listed the accused's lawyer and seemed to prejudice the accused's guilt.”

Zimmerman was also accused of privately speaking to the jury after criminal proceedings, “and submitted information to the jury, which could be interpreted as implicitly, criticized her judgment,” said the documents published by the Commission.

In two other cases, the Commission said in the documents, Zimmerman “a co -judge who wrote an opinion that he did not agree to”. In this case and at another time, Zimman was “not patient, worthy and polite for lawyers who appeared before him.”

Details on the cases have not been released.

The Commission found that Zimman, who has no disciplinary history, worked with his investigation and apologized for his behavior.

“The judges are obliged to be patient, dignified and polite with everyone who you see in their professional property,” said that the agency administrator Robert Tembeckjian, “and there are the opportunity to give all legal disputes and their lawyers.”

“You also have to praise or criticize a jury for your judgment.”

Zimmerman said in the letter that it was “an honor and a privilege to serve in this position”.

Zimmerman was a convincing critic of the bail reform laws of 2020. In a 2022 OP-ED piece for the news, Zimmerman wrote that the public debate about the reform of the deposit “is completely divorced from the purpose of the statute”.

“If our chosen civil servants believe that the deposit should only be determined to ensure the return to court-and if they believe that the New Yorkers are ready to accept this, they do not stop, to define” deposits of deposit “in relation to violence, without determining evidence that those who have accused such crimes in court,” he added. “And if you are not prepared for it, you should allow the judges to take into account the security of the community in the deposit, as well as most other jurisdiction.”

In 2021, Zimmerman raised the eyebrows when it came to the light that he and a federal judge had asked for two defendants who had completed the plea deals in order to obtain a covid 19 vaccine.

Zimmerman had argued that William Gregory, who was charged with drug possession, criminal violation and shop theft, had clearly adhered to from his own interest and that the vaccine was for social asset and the reference to Gregory's rehabilitation.
