The shares of Luminar Technologies Inc. rose on March 17 after the former NASA scientist Mark Rober, who was equipped with the company's lidar technology in a YouTube video, and explained that Tesla Inc.'s autopilot function was exceeded.

In the video, in which more than 11 million views on YouTube have been published since its publication on March 15, Rober carries out six tests in which the Lidar technology is evaluated against Tesla's system. He said that navigates navigated with only “simple cameras” and image processing.

The Luminar shares rose by 27%on March 17, their greatest profit in more than two months. Meanwhile, the Tesla shares fell 4.8%and below average both the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ 100 indices.

A representative of Luminar rejected a statement, while a representative of Tesla did not respond to the request from Bloomberg News for comment.

His description for the YouTube video said that Luminar made the vehicle available for test purposes, but was not financially compensated by the company and the video was not a paid action. Luminars X and LinkedIn accounts have both left links to Robers YouTube video on March 15th.

Lidar, short for the easy detection and level, is a sensor technology that sends laser impulses, and then measures the time you need to rebel and return. This data is used to calculate how far things are removed and to create a three -dimensional map of the objects in one area.
