Visitors flock to Savannah to found their own traditions of St. Patrick

Savannah, GA (WSAV) – One thing for which the day of Savannah St. Patrick is known is a tradition, people come back year after year for the unforgettable moments.

Thousands of families and friends grabbed a place where it brings back what they return. And after many people we talked to, Savannah, Georgia is on March 17th. In fact, it was a persistent tradition for many like Robert Blake von Metter, GA.

“It has been a tradition for me since 1981 when I was in the high school and I marched in this parade for five years,” said Blake.

This year's parade is something special for Michael and Marianne Smisko from Jupiter, Florida.

“I was 70 years old ten years ago,” said Marianne. “And we decided to come and celebrate. And so we stayed up here for the 70th. And at that time I said that I will return to Savannah ten years later to celebrate my 80th. “

Just like with the Smisko, it is a pretty new tradition for Gena Bukur and Tree risk from central florida.

“I once came with the high school band years ago,” she said to WSAV. “It marched, but we started the Covid year, got up and they had no parade. But we made our own and were fun. And then we've been here in this place for the past four years. “

Only when I spoke to Parade participants did I learn that a tradition is not limited. It is about getting to know new friends, bringing new family members and enjoying Irish culture, and that makes it every year to get back.

“I think whatever we can find, we find different things every year,” said Bukur.

“Well, we got up at 5:00 a.m. this morning, have come down, have breakfast and we are proud to be here until 11 or 12:00 at the night when you came to River Street and dancing and drinking the green beer,” said Blake.
