Local expert shares tips to keep rodents and insects away

Monroe, La. (Knoe) – When spring in the northeast -Louisiana arrives, experts in local pest control now say that they take measures to prevent pests such as rodents, fire ants and wasps from entering their house and garden.

With warmer weather and increasing precipitation, pest control increases and experts say that prevention can now save severe headaches.

“They are just like humans – when the weather gets warmer, they get up and move around,” said Paul Eikert with Redd's fighting in Monroe.

According to Eikert, his team already has an increase in demands for fire ants, wasps and spiders when the temperatures rise. He warns that early spring is the beginning of the peak time season and many insects are already active.

“Check all areas in which your children and pets like to play – for example, spending rocket sets,” said Eikert. “Search for ants, wasps and yellow jackets. These are painful bite, even sometimes dangerous. “

He recommends using pest sprays and the play areas outdoors clean and free of ruins in which pests could hide.

Eikert says it is just as important to protect the inside of her house. Rodents and insects can often be found through small gaps and openings.

“I saw how they come through lights, ventilation slots and ventilation hoods,” said Eikert. “There is a gap everywhere – you will come in. Try to seal these areas and prevent this.”

Products such as boilers and steel wool can help to seal cracks around doors, windows and entry points for the supply company.

Experts say that rodents are particularly active at night. If you hear scratchy noises or see signs like drops, it may be time to call a professional.

Many local pest control companies offer free inspections to achieve potential problems.
