What you should pay attention to

Bryan, Texas (KBTX) – In the early morning hours of March 16, heavy thunderstorms brought big hail and strong gusts of wind over the Brazos Valley. Now a new kind of storm takes over the chances and brings the chances of fraudsters to the area.

After the hailstorm, vehicles with dents and broken windshields were left behind, and homeowners stated that their roofs and windows damage.

Jason Meza with the Better Business Bureau said this natural disaster was the perfect recipe for “storm hunters”.

“They are fraudsters, they are fraudsters, they advertise neighborhoods, they know where the damage paths are located and they knock on doors,” explains Meza.

He said it was like clockwork. It is known that umbrella supports recently flock in areas affected by natural disasters, hoping to make quick money.

“You collect the money and usually never return,” said Mezza. “You may start working, but you never end, or you are just a bad reputation, and you are even exposed to a real legitimate roofer.”

Many people become victims of fraudulent roof companies who cheat on money, but if the tactics develop, the red flags will always be there.

“Make sure that you carry out a thorough duty of care and do not make yourself blind by someone who claims to be licensed,” warn Schulte -Roofing President Josh Schulte. “No licensing in the state of Texas is required to be a roofing company.”

Before you bring your car into a shop, the Better Business Bureau first recommends your insurance company and researched through tested companies in the region in order not to make a rushed decision.

“Only communicate,” asks Meza. “Communicate with your insurance company, communicate with others, your neighbors and keep the lines open because you never know that fraud could end in our back yard.”

Experts said that they took the time to research a company before the pen is put on paper to save their bank account.

“Always check your contractors when you have someone on the roof,” said Meza. “Inquire first with your insurer and let them start this process for evaluation. Then take a look at three or four or more commandments from there before you get out and sign a contract or offer money. “

Schulte should ask important questions and talk to former customers about a company before they give them money.

“Ask people who have used companies. Do you recommend this person to me, did you work for you? How well was this work carried out? Are you satisfied with what you have made available, ”added Schulte.
