Proper start -up talks upcoming events, future plans for Hancock Community Hub

Hancock, Michigan (WLUC) – A project for improvement and the community members, where the joy of pleasure is located, continues in Hancock.

The right start -up, the owner of the New Hancock Community Hub, looks forward into his future. The non -profit organization bought the first three floors of the former Hirvonen Hall from Finlandia University for 315,000 US dollars last June last June. The fourth floor is private and the home of several companies.

“I have the feeling that the excitement that we found in the city and spoke to people was very, very high, and we are very encouraged,” said Sarah Lahti, the legal secretary of the right start -up board.

According to Lahti, there have been several developments since the purchase. This includes the Keweenaw Community Foundation, which has set up a shop on the third floor, and a successful fundraising campaign on Tuesday, the 26,000 US dollars for improvements to the Hub auditorium such as new curtains, speakers and projectors.

“And I'm happy, we have a daycare center, Gabby's guppies,” Lahti continued. “And she will … take in to small children plus preschool.”

The plans for the auditorium include community stages and films in winter. Lahti also notes that the first event of the auditorium, a stopover from the jazz ensemble of the University of Michigan as part of its up tour, will take place on May 6th in the auditorium.

The organization also founded an event committee of volunteers to plan various events in the hub. The first major event of the committee is' Aloha! Spring Family Dance, a community, Hawaii themed dance at the Hub's fitness on April 4th.

“We will play music and also do some fun dance competitions like a limbo competition,” said Sarah Melin, co-chair of the Hancock Community Hub Event Committee. “We have some activities for children so that children can stay busy if they don't want to be on the dance floor.”

Melin notes that participation in the event is free, but donations are estimated.

“The events cost money, so that the more donations in (and) people in the community who support this can definitely do more in the future,” added Melin.

The dance will be Melin from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. that everyone who wants to join the event committee or if a company wants to sponsor an event can contact the hub.
