Drake took his rap cow with Kendrick Lamar from the stand into the courtroom and submitted a defamation suit against his own label – the University Music Group (UMG). But now UMG shoots back and submits an application for discharge and says that this is not a legal matter-it is only hip-hop.

“Instead of accepting the loss like the improper rap artist, who often claims, he has sued his own record label to anoint his wounds, which the plaintiff deserves completely. These are the words from the surrounding introduction to her file to dismiss drake defamation and ultimately accuses him of having apparently lost the fight against llamar.

Let us rewind us quickly. All of this started last year when Drake and Lamar Diss tracks left back and forth and had the internet in a choke pit. But Lamar landed what many called the Knockout Punch with “not as us”, a route that was the unofficial hymn of summer for many. Drake – never back – fell back to court. He accuses AMG, a label that he and Lamar are obliged to push a “wrong and malignant” story that he is a pedophile, a narrative that “not like us” implies greatly. This slandersuit takes place after Drake has artificially increased the streams of the song in which he accused his label and Spotify.

Drake's leading lawyer, Michael J. Gottlieb, has been determined. In an explanation of PitchFork, he said: “Umg wants to pretend that it is about a rap fight to distract its shareholders, artists and the public from a simple truth: A greedy company is finally responsible for benefiting from dangerous misinformation that have already led to several violent clocks.”

But UMG does not withdraw either. Your application for dismissal argues that “not like us” is only a Diss track – full of fiery rhetoric and insults, not the actual claims. And they say that it does not mean distributing the song that they have approved any falsehoods about drake. One of her lawyers even pointed out that UMG Drakes Diss Track “Family Matters” treated the same way, which accuses Lamar of domestic abuse and infidelity.

Drake has also taken legal action against iheartmedia and accused her of having accepted illegal payments from UMG to promote the radio AirPlay “not like us”. This suit was enclosed this month. In the meantime, the court has just denied the request from UMG to pause the discovery in drake's defamation. Just a day earlier, Drake submitted to discontinuing a circuit and internal documents to receive whether the label simply distributed the song or actively worked behind the scenes to further push it.
