Previous reporting

Oahu, Kauai and Niihau are under a flood guard this afternoon, since a storm system that comes by the islands brings the risk of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms.

“The potential for locally heavy showers and a few thunderstorms will exist today, especially about the western end of the state, since a disturbance of the upper level creates unstable conditions,” said the national weather service this morning.

During the flood guard, “flood roads and other low lies due to increased drains and overcrowded streams can receive significant floods and damage to property due to faster drains,” said the forecast.

The storm system was on Windward Oahu on Sunday evening and put the area under a fall flood warning for several hours. The weather service said that three vehicles were stranded in knee -deep water near the Waiker Valley Road, on Sunday evening, and the Kamhameha Highway in both directions near the Waankane Valley Bridge closed due to floods.

The storm system is expected to pass on the islands on Tuesday, with the rest of the week primarily prefer Windward areas. Commercial winds can be disturbed again next weekend if a front of the region is approaching.
