Man who was arrested in Deadly Austin Road Rage Schießerei has criminal history

Court documents revealed the man who was accused of shoting a man to death in a road base act and shot someone a few years ago.

Austin's police said Jacob Gonzalez was involved in a shootout in 2023, but the indictment was rejected.

The background story:

Austin's police reacted to an area near Martin Luther King Boulevard and the I-35 Service Road towards the south shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 8th.

The records of the prison show that 21-year-old Jacob Gonzalez Jr. was charged with murder.

In an affidavit, Gonzalez stood by the police that he had shot the victim, which was identified as Adan Marez after Marez turned to his vehicle at a traffic light.

A witness at the crime scene informed the police that they drove when they cut before the car driven by Gonzalez, the affidavit. The driver told the police that Gonzalez had passed and started throwing garbage out of his car.

The police said Gonzalez said the shot should be a warning shot and he “did not mean that it is fatal, the affidavit says.

Court files showed that this was not the first time that Gonzalez shot someone.

The police said in 2023 that Gonzalez and another man were shot at a petrol station. A man who recognized the vehicle that belonged to people who had been caught in problems and crimes in his neighborhood attracted it and blocked it and then confronted the people in the vehicle.

Detective said that the video showed that the man shot in Gonzalez, then Gonzalez shot back. Thirty -five mussel covers were found in the parking lot. Gonzalez was arrested for serious bodily harm with a fatal weapon and an illegal stretch of a weapon.

“If you are the police if you are the district prosecutor if you are the entire criminal lawyer and have a young person who is a minor and you are running around with a firearm and you get into difficulties with this firearm, you should move very quickly,” said St. Edwards, deputy professor for law enforcement, Carsten, Carsten, Carsten undrsen.

Both fees were rejected.

The Travis County public prosecutor's office published a statement on the incident:

“In this case, the evidence collected in the PC esidal explanation and the evidence collected pointed out that the accused acted in self-defense.

Our review of the offense resulted in evidence deficiencies. Since we could not fulfill our burden on evidence, we dismissed the indictment with an affidavit that the presumed weapon was neither in the possession of the accused nor other weapons or weapons after the law enforcement was not able to fire weapon. “

“Nineteen years old and you will get into a shootout with someone. It does not need a genius to see just to see what will happen in the next few years, especially if you have the feeling of doing nothing wrong and being used by the punitive justice system,” said Andresen.

Just three years later, Gonzalez admitted to shooting Marez.

“I just hope that they won't let him out, because if he had done it more than once, not saying whether he will do it again,” said Castillo.

What's next:

Gonzalez is recorded in the Travis County prison with a bond of USD 1,000,000.

He has a hearing on April 2, 2025.
