Song “angry” by shooting the death of the 8-year-old

New Haven, Conn. (WTNH)-The circumstances of the “random” death of an 8-year-old boy in New Haven on Sunday evening are still being examined, but a local mother knows the pain and anger.

“It is heartbreaking,” said Kristin Song, President of the Ethan Miller Song Foundation. “For me, I personally take it.

Chef Karl Jacobson also calls this tragedy “avoidable and senseless”.

The police said they were no longer available to the 8-year-old boy on the kitchen floor of his house in Dewitt Street shortly before 11 p.m. He was taken to the Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was declared dead.

“He was shot in his house with his family,” said deputy chief of police David Zannelli. “We are waiting for other information such as the medical examiner report and other information from the State Lab, but incredibly heartbreaking and tragic.”

Mayor Justin Elicker said that the boy was a student of the public school in New Haven. His name will not be published at this time.

The officials recovered a weapon in the residence and said at that time that the shootout seems to be random – a concept cannot stand.

“The word accident drives me crazy because the word accident implies that the gun owner or this parent could have done this to protect this child, and we know that this is absolutely wrong, unless there is mitigating circumstances,” said Song.

In 2018, her 15-year-old son Ethan accidentally shot at home with an unsecured weapon at a friend.

“The day after his death, we should go to New Haven to feed the homeless,” said Song. “His sympathy and empathy for vulnerable and marginalized.”

In order to honor his memory, Kristin has had volunteering for seven years and was committed to preventing incidents like Sunday evening.

The Ethan law requires Connecticut weapons owners to secure firearms if a minor is in the house or could receive access to him.

Kristin said her work was not done.

“Under no circumstances would we create a cultural change in this country,” said Song. “We have to post the accountability to the adults who actually bring the weapon into the house.

Kristin said you can buy a weapon safe on Amazon for less than $ 75 and the storage of a firearm takes 30 seconds.

The New Haven police said that criminal charges are possible in this case. They asked everyone with information to call (203) 946-6316.
