Pepsico, the giant of the drinks behind Pepsi-Cola and Gatorade, has acquired the Poppi brand from Prebiotic Soda.

With the 1.95 billion US dollar deal with expected cash benefits of $ 300 million for a net purchase of USD 1.65 billion, Pepsico can offer consumers “more positive decisions”, according to the conglomerate.

The Functional Soda brand was created by Allison and Stephen Ellsworth and combines prebiotics, fruit juice and apple cider vinegar for a low -calorie drink.

Poppi was discovered by Vita Coco Investor Rohan Oza in the US Reality TV Serie Shark Tank.

The brand was financed by the first seed by the investment company Cavu Consumer partners from Oza.

“If we want to reorganize our portfolio offer to satisfy the needs of the White world space consumers, the unique intersection of the Poppi brand with wellness and culture is a perfect addition to our portfolio,” said Ram Krishnan, CEO of Pepsico Beverages Us.

“Allison and the Poppi team have built up a magnetic brand that is ahead of the trends with a loyal consumer basis and a proven growth ability.”

Co -founder Allison said that she was confident that Pepsico would “honor Poppi so special and at the same time support our next growth phase and innovation”.

Prebiotics help to promote growth or the activity of useful microorganisms, whereby the lemonades of Poppis specifically contain Agave inulin and manioc fibers.

However, Pepsico is not the only global name that invests in prebiotic brands and the wider microbiome health trend.

The Japanese beauty giant Shiseido took over Gallinée Gallinée in London in 2022.

Dr. Marie Dragos Skus contain a complex of prebiotics, probiotics (“good” bacteria) and post -biiotics (the metabolic by -products produced by microorganisms) to strengthen the microbioma of the skin.

And in the same year, Beiersdorf took over the majority stake in the Belgian organic skiosciences S-Biomedic, a Skin Microbiome Research and Development Companies to complement his own research activities in this area.

In 2023, L'Oréal announced the purchase of a probiotic and microbioma research company Lactobio for an unspoken sum.

Lactobio creates probiotic and post -biotic skin care ingredients and operates its own probiotic skin care brand, BAK.

Unilever Ventures has now been an investor in Austria-Mikrobiom-oriented hair care start-up track, which includes a patented prebiotic ingredient called Defensecalp, which was developed to combat dry, itchy skin and dandruff.
