Winfield-Mount Union Boys' Trail & Field takes the starting line | Kcii radio

The Winfield-Mount Union begins a new athletics season for boys, and while the wolves have many high-ranking talents who can replace last year's team like the Hurdles State Medalist Gabe Hemsworth and the former long jump-state champion Cam Buffington, returns a large part of the 2024 WMU squad.

This includes the Senior Kohlby Newsom, one of the top distance in class 1a, the Winfield-Mount Union in the seasons of 4 x 400 meters and distance medals in the state medals of the 4-time 400-meter company and reached the state in the open 800 meters.

Sheading Adams was also part of these relay teams and is back for the wolves in his senior season, while Junior Jaxton Jones is back after winning a Southeast Iowa Super Conference Championship with the distance medley team.

The PMMa head coach Matt Shyko tells Kcii Sports that his team may have many new faces on paper, but they have many talents in their ranks.

“Last year we had this gigantic senior class that moved out,” says Sheyko, “and this year it's funny, this year we have a team and the seniors who come back, I am very excited to see how they appear.”

Winfield-Mount Union will compete in Louisa Muscatine for the first time in this route season at the Columbus Invitation on Monday.
