The Dodgers and Cubs will start the regular season with two games in Japan from Tuesday, March 18. Of course, the remaining 28 MLB teams will not take part.

When is MLB opening day for everyone else?

The traditional MLB opening day will take place on Thursday, March 27, with 28 teams in action. Although the Dodgers and Cubs already have two games, they will still take part in the opening competitions, with the Dodgers facing the Detroit Tigers at home while the Cubs will play the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

The only teams that do not play games on March 27 are the Tampa Bay Rays and Colorado Rockies. After Hurricane Milton devastated the area of Tampa in the offseason, the rays were given an additional day to prepare for the regular 2025 season when they set up their new, temporary home in George M. Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home for the New York Yankees.
