Padres Manager reveals why Dylan Cease did not start the opening day

The San Diego Padres called her opening starter on Monday, and the pitcher was a little surprising.

Although Dylan Histen, Michael King and Yu Darvish were technically all candidates to get the nod, it was largely speculated that the team is appointed the team's opening starter.

Padres manager Mike Shildt explained why the King team had been selected for the brothers because of open the season.

“It literally fell into the way days went,” said Shildt about the Kevin Acee of San Diego Union-Tribune. “Michael was a little sick and started his schedule in a certain way, and Dylan started his schedule in a certain way, and the schedules worked very well.

Shildt is certainly right with the fact that King deserves the nod.

In 2024, King produced an ERA of 2.95 with a 13-9 record. He had 201 strike outs in 173.2 Innerings. The right-handed man took two off-season starts for the Padres and published a 3.75 ERA over 12 Innerings.

King will start the opening day in Petco Park, surrounded by worshiped fans. What the nod means for the right -hander, he shared his motivation to start the season on the right.

“It is difficult to describe. It is the beginning of the baseball season, and everyone is looking forward to it,” said King to reporters. “You want to set the tone for the team. I said Shildty, we will be 1-0 after this game. I think to win the first game of the season, sets the tone for the rest of the season.”

The 2024 season in Padres 2024 came to an early conclusion in the NL Division series, so that the team is able this season.
